Fair Fare

Well, if you can believe it... it is time again for the Great Minnesota Get Together. Of course, I am talking about none other than the Minnesota State Fair. I don't really think people outside of Minnesota have a concept for what this really means. For how excited we get.... for how we look forward to this time of year every season. I love summer, but the best part of it ending is the State Fair. So, really everyone goes to the Fair to eat. Fattys, skinny minnies, and diabetics alike... we all eat ourselves full at the State Fair. So now, a list of my favorite foods I am looking forward to. And please, do not freak out when you don't see Cheese Curds on my list. And away we go...

- Pork Chop on a stick - How Jewish of me, I know. Porky's Delight was the best, but they are long gone. So the new ones are good... just not AS good.

- Danielson & Daughters Onion Rings - Only one booth; right outside the food building. There are no other onion rings like it.

- Orange Treet - Same as an Orange Julius, but a different name. You have to drink this while eating the onion rings above.

- Fudge Puppies - A recent addition to my list; Basically, a waffle dipped in chocolate covered in whipped cream. How bad could that be?!?!

- Sweet Martha's - A good old fashioned standby. I do not even like milk, but you have to finish off your cookies with a glass of milk.

- Pickle Dogs - Only one booth; just before the Midway. It is a pickle, covered with cream cheese, and wrapped in pastrami. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! And it can only be topped off with a glass of grape Kool-Aid.

- Sweet Roll - Inside the Food Building, and if you really want to do it up, ask for "extra goop!"

- Dippin' Dots - I know they are everywhere now, but I still love 'em and always make room for them.

- Homemade Peanut Roll - A delicious snack I always buy and take home for later.

And now a few honorable mentions that I enjoy, but likely won't have...

- French Fries - You know the big yellow booth!

- Corn Dog - I used to eat a million, not anymore.

- Sparkling Apple Cider Float - Enjoyable, but I need to save room in my tummy.

- Dairy Building Malt - Good, but you can always get a good malt somewhere outside of the Fair.

And finally a list of things people like, that I just never got into...

- Cheese Curds - They are alright, but not my thing.

- Mini Donuts - I usually eat one, and then am good for another year.

- Turkey Leg - Those things are disgusting and barbaric looking.

- Foot Long Hot Dog - What... a regular one isn't big enough at the Fair?

- Roasted Corn - You chew it up, swallow, and it comes out whole. No thanks... not for me!

Well, I hope I did not miss anything, but with all those delicious delicacies, I am bound to have forgotten something. For those of you who have been to the fair, please leave a comment with your favorite Fair Fare. Come on.... you know you want to.

Check back often for more Random Ramblings!

I love food but any excess in life can make you end up in an emergency room. Enjoy these great treats with moderation! Cheers!
