Economy

This economy sucks. I feel like we are spiraling out of control and no one knows when we will stop. Hopefully soon, and hopefully the repercussions are not as devastating as we think. But for now... things are not good.

Work
So many people are losing their jobs. For those that are lucky enough to keep their jobs, they are getting pay cuts, wage freezes, loss of benefits, and more.

Vacations
People cannot afford vacations anymore. You work hard at your job and are rewarded with time off. That time off should be spent doing something fun. But in this economy, it is hard to do. Disney raised the price to their parks on Sunday.... single day pass and multiple day passes. They did so because they reported a 26% loss. I have a piece of advice Disney... if you are losing money because no one is coming to the parks, don't raise the price. That won't bring in more people.

Cars
Cash for clunkers. It's a great program, really. But now there are threats of shutting it down because there isn't enough money. And just today, I got out of my car and saw a gorgeous Pontiac G6 convertible. Then it made me sad to know GM has shut down the Pontiac brand. Another poor sign of the economy. I had a Pontiac and loved it. Now... the whole line will be gone as if it never existed.

Theater
I love going to the theater... always have. But they are suffering too. It is almost a weekly occurrence that I get e-mails from Chanhassen practically begging people to come to their shows. One e-mail gave us 50% off tickets. Hello.... two for the price of one. That is crazy!!

Vendors
One of the caterers we had talked to for the wedding was not interested in giving us prices, menus, etc. because he was not sure they would be in business in October of 2010. Businesses are concerned they are going to have to shut their doors because no one is spending money.

I am not an economist, and do not even pretend to understand what the issues are. But come on... someone has to fix this problem. I know the Obama administration is doing everything they think they can, but certainly there has to be more that can be done. Drastic times call for drastic measures.

The drastic measures are being taken and that's what we don't want to hear about: layoffs, restructuring, doing more with less, non essential expenses out (dinning out, theater and travel). It's a time for frugal living unfortunately.

what is needed is for government to stop spending and cut taxes across the board along with cutting the withholding ammounts required so peoples paychecks will get bigger that is the only way to get things going.. cash for clunkers was estimated to only encourage people who were going to buy in the next 6-8 weeks to do so sooner so it was no net benefit to the country but we all have to pay for it in the form of taxation... we need a middle class tax cut and no increases for anyone else.. they need to stop the record spending(obama has already outspent bush's entire 8 years) the price for all the mandates is now estimated at 19trillion but could go as high as 29 trillion!!!
