As always, it was a GREAT trip. We had so much fun, and I am so glad Chad got to go to Colorado to see the mountains and all, and also Lorrie's house before she sells it. So, here is a re-cap of the trip broken down by day.
Thursday
Thursday night we got to the airport. When we checked in, all was okay. And then the shit hit the fan. The dumbass VP (Joe Biden) was in town for his $7600/person fundraiser. Well, apparently when he is ready to leave, the entire airport shuts down. That's right... no planes in, and no planes out for over an hour. Thankfully, we were on the ground. I feel sorry for the poor people who were circling in the air for an hour. Absolutely ridiculous. When the ass-clown finally took off, EVERYONE cheered and clapped. That should not even be allowed to happen. So, after a couple hour delay, we finally arrived in Denver, drove to Greeley, got settled in, and went to bed.
Friday
Friday morning we woke up early. I think we only got about 5 hours of sleep. We were in a small bed and it was hot, so we just could not sleep anymore. But it was okay, because we got to get our day started early. After we all showered and got ready, we packed the car to head into the mountains and Estes Park. First, we made a few stops, including a run back to the house as Lorrie forgot her swimsuit (which we never needed anyway).
Our drive in was pretty uneventful. We kept stopping so Chad could get pics of the mountains. It was pretty cute to watch how excited he was. He got some GREAT pics!!! Once we got to Estes, we checked into our cabin at Timber Creek Chalet (http://www.rockymtnresorts.com/locations/timber-creek-chalets/). It was AWESOME!!! Shout out to AP for not only finding it, but paying for it as well. The place comfortably slept 8, though we only had 6. Chad and I had our own room with a king size bed. AP had her own queen bed, but shared a room with Emory and Lorrie in the other queen. Kyle slept on the queen size futon. We also had two bathrooms, a full kitchen, a fireplace, and access to hot tubs. The place was AWESOME!!!
After we checked in and unloaded the car, we continued the drive into the mountains. We went to Rocky Mountain National Park and had a picnic of Honeybaked Ham sandwiches. I had the turkey.... it was an amazing sandwich. After we ate, we did a little hiking through some terrain and took great pics. After that, we continued on up the mountains as high as we could go. We were around 10,000 feet. It was pretty fun. On our way down, we stopped by this place called Beaver Creek (I think) still in the park. We came upon a heard of Elk that was amazing. They were extremely close to us. So close that one came and licked the hood of the car for a few minutes. Chad got a video of that. One of the Bucks was extremely horny and trying to mount the ladies, but they were having no part of it. It was damn funny to watch.
After that it was back to the cabin where we met Emory and her dog Wrigley, and Kyle and Lorrie's dog Duncan. Yup, 6 people and two Golden Retrievers in one cabin. We headed to dinner at a place called Dunraven Inn for dinner. It was excellent Italian food. Homemade everything and Lorrie said probably the best meal she has ever had in Estes. One cool thing about the place... they have decorated $1 bills lining the wall of the restaurant. They estimate over $16,000 on their walls. We all decorated one on behalf of mine and Chad's engagement. It was fun to do.
After dinner it was back to the cabin for a little nosh, a board game called Dirty Minds (highly entertaining) and then off to bed.
Saturday
Saturday morning we woke up, got ready, took the dogs for a walk, had breakfast, woke up the rest of the clan, and off we went. We spent the entire day shopping in downtown Estes. It was so fun to go into all of the stores. We really enjoyed ourselves. And the weather was GORGEOUS!!!! After we did all of downtown, we headed back to Greeley. We went to the grocery store, bought a bunch of appetizers, made those for dinner, played Scattergories, watched Roseanne, and went to bed. We were all exhausted and went to bed early!
Sunday
Sunday we were going into Boulder. We got ready, said goodbye to Emory, and loaded up the car again. If you are thinking, "My word you spent a lot of time in the car," you are right. That is always the case when we are in Colorado, because there is nothing to do in Greeley, but we are just an hour or so from Denver, Estes Park, Boulder, and Fort Collins. We went to a restaurant called "The Sink" where lots of CU kids hang out. The place was a really fun environment, but the food sucked and our extremely drunk waitress was a moron. But it gave us a lot to laugh at. Lexie and John were with us for this day, so Chad finally got to meet the entire clan. We had a blast with them.
After lunch, we went on the Celestial Seasonings factory tour. It was okay, but we made our own fun... teabagging anyone. :) lol After the tour, we bought a lot of stuff in their store, and then headed to Pearl Street. This is where we did a lot more shopping. Tons of cute stores including this AWESOME 80's candy store where Chad and I both got old school metal lunch boxes. I got a Smurfs one... he got a Sock Monkey one. So fun.
After walking around for what seemed like hours, we finally had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. After that, we said goodbye to Kyle, Lexie, and John, and headed back for our last night in Greeley. We basically packed, hung out a bit, and went to bed. We had to wake up at 5:00 to get to the airport on Monday.
That was pretty much the trip. We had a blast, as we always do in Colorado, and I am already looking forward to the next vacation.
