Old School Favorite Shows From the 80's

Okay, Logan.... this one is for you. Today I am flashing back to my favorite shows from when I was growing up in the 80's. How many of these shows did you enjoy too?

1. Facts of Life - Classic.... and where George Clooney got his start.

2. Different Strokes - What you talking about Willis?

3. Golden Girls - Always a favorite and they still air repeats on Lifetime.

4. Jem - Maybe this cartoon is what made me gay.

5. Silver Spoons - I always wanted to have a train to ride in my house.

6. Night Court - Come on... a guy named Bull.

7. Alf - Who didn't want to have an alien live with them?

8. Small Wonder - It made me want to be a robot.

9. Growing Pains - Mike Sever's best friend's name was Boner... enough said.

10. Punky Brewster - How cute is she?

11. Charles in Charge - Kind of a tool, but a good show.

12. Out of this World - I still wish I could freeze time by putting my fingers together.

The "blahs"

Today I have a case of the blahs. I actually have for a few days. I really think I am just run down and tired. When you are worn out, you want something comforting. So here now is a list of some of my favorite old comfort foods:

1. French toast

2. Cinnamon and sugar toast

3. Hard boiled egg on toast

4. Egg salad

5. Mac n' Cheese

6. Chicken a la king

7. Chicken soup

8. Ice cream

Okay, that is it. I tried to get to 10, but either these are really my favorites and I do not have two more, or I am so "blah" that I cannot think clearly. In any case... numbers 5 and 7 definitely have to be my mother's. Any other, simply wouldn't do.

Dumb Kids

Please read the link below before reading this blog update.

http://www.kare11.com/news/whatsup/whatsup_article.aspx?storyid=820135&catid=333

Are you kidding me? Those kids should be punished severely. The town should not be throwing them a parade for being back home, grandpa... they should be smacking those kids until their asses turn red... and I am not even someone who believes in spanking!

They thought they would get in trouble? Ya huh! They could hear their parents and police yelling for them, but they ignored the calls? Are you kidding?!?! Thankfully they plan to be grounded which is exactly what should happen. Those kids probably made their families sick with fear, and cost their city thousands of dollars in search equipment, man power, etc. Those kids are lucky they aren't within my reach.

Oh, and by the way... next time there are lost children... ask a TV reporter to look for them on a curb, in broad daylight, 200 feet from their house. I bet they will get good results! Way to go police department. Leave it to the TV journalists to do your dirty work.

Bad Business

First we had the homophobic photographer, and now this...

Chad and I did some searching around for florists. That business is definitely word of mouth, so we contacted four different places. Of those, only one responded. It happened to be the florist my sister used for her wedding, Artemesia. The owner, Kim, responded pretty quickly even though she was out of the country. She had us fill out a form online, and got us a mid-range quote pretty quickly. Great... we were all set to meet with Kim and were already impressed with her customer service. From there, it went down hill.

Last Thursday we were supposed to meet Kim at 7:30pm. Around 6:00 I get a phone call from her saying she was not feeling well and we should cancel. Okay, not a problem... if you're sick, you're sick. I then told Missy who said, "Yup, that sounds about right... she's pretty flaky." Ummm... hello?!?!?! Why didn't you tell me that before?!?!?! Whatever, Missy reads this blog, and truth be told, I cannot fault her because in the end, Artemesia did a nice job with their wedding.

So, we re-scheduled for 6:00 last night. At 5:15, Chad gets a call from Kim saying she wants to confirm our 6:30 appointment. He said, "I thought it was for 6:00." She said 6:30 would work because we would not need the full hour. Yet her website, and all of her information she sends clearly states she likes an hour for the first consultation. So Chad tells me, and I say "Uh uh. We are meeting her at 6:00." I called Kim and explained that we had somewhere to be later and that my mom was meeting us there at 6:00. She said okay and she will see us then.

We had no idea how long it would take to get there, so we were VERY early (5:30). As we were walking in the door to the place where we were going to meet her, my phone rang. It was Kim... go figure. "Hi Alex. I am sorry, I do not like to involve my clients in my personal life..." and she went on about being out in Maple Grove with an emergency tooth ache for her boyfriend, and yadda, yadda, yadda. She said there is no way she would be there by 6:00... she did not even know how to get to our meeting place from where she was. Pardon my French, but... ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!?! So she said she may not even make it by 6:30, but we were welcome to wait for her. I told her no thank you, I will not be waiting, and hung up.

A person who relies on word of mouth, should have a LOT better customer service skills than that. First, she tried to lie about the time we were meeting by calling Chad and not me. Hello... we had her confirmation she e-mailed us that said 6:00. Then, she flakes again for the second meeting in a row. And then, worst of all in my opinion, she did not even try to save face. No apology e-mail, no phone call, nothing.

So... if you are looking for a florist, do yourself a favor and DO NOT, under any circumstances use Artemesia.

And as long as I am bad mouthing businesses, don't use Ramsey Photography either... they are the homophobic assholes. Cheers!

Looking Forward

So much to do, so little time. My life used to be more simple, more laid back and relaxed. Now, it is like a constant whirlwind. Don't get me wrong... I love it, would not change a thing, and am truly happier now than I ever remember being. But damn... so much going on...

As everyone knows, Chad and I are planning our wedding for 10-10-10. We are getting a lot of the vendors out of the way and booked now so that we not only get the cream of the crop, but we can also rest assured that everything is on track.

But above the wedding, there is so much to look forward to. Here are a few of those things...

- Herzl's Alumni Camp from August 7-9

- Minnesota's Amazing Race over Labor Day

- A trip to Lawrence in October

- All of the winter holidays and time with family (Thanksgiving, X-mas, Chanukkah, New Years, etc.)

- January brings mine and Chad's one year anniversary (can you believe it has only been 6 months next week)

- February 13-23 is our 10-night cruise aboard Holland America's Noordam

And as of now, that is where the "events" end. But rest assured, soon we will be planning more fun beyond that to look forward to. More events leading up to the wedding, and we already have our honeymoon booked for January 15, 2011. What can I say... I like to travel.

DC (Door County, not Washington)

Greetings! Well, this weekend was a trip to Door County, and it was great. I went with Chad, my Aunt Peggy, my Aunt Cathy, and AC's bestie Linda. We left Thursday morning. AC and Linda drove separately because they went up earlier and are staying later. Chad, AP, and I left Thursday morning. It is a six hour drive, but took us about 7 hours with stops, which is really not bad at all. Nothing too exciting about the car ride.

We got in and were staying at the Cain's Country House. In theory, a lovely place. Actually, when you get there, to the naked (ha, ha... you said naked) eye, it is lovely as well. But then you really take a close look. Food all over under the table, no soap in the dispensers, dirty blankets, dead bugs in the beds, a wine bottle wedged in between the mattress and box spring, dusty, wet toilet paper, etc. Unfortunately, we also had an issue with who was sleeping where, but I am not going to get into that again. Suffice it to say, Chad and I ended up in the VERY cold basement. We had to wear socks to keep us warm (and our feet clean) and because we did not have a bathroom, we peed in a bucket. That's right... I peed in a bucket in the middle of the night... what of it?!?!

So after we took a tour of the lovely place and then went and bought things like hand soap, toilet paper, and citronella candles (I felt like a schmear) at the local Target (a half hour away), our vacation began. That night we went into Fish Creek to eat at one of our favorite places called Mr. Helsinki's. I had cheese fondue for din din. It was delish. Then came my favorite part... dessert. It was my favorite thing last time from DC and my favorite again. A bananas foster crepe with chocolate in the middle, smothered with carmel and ice cream... and of course, bananas foster. Amazingly good! Then, we walked into a few stores before heading back home. Once there, we played Scrabble, and then went to sleep in the ice box.

Friday morning we woke up, got ready, and went back into Fish Creek (our favorite of the towns). We had breakfast at Julie's. It was a cute little place with good food. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Then, we were off and running. It was a TON of shopping from that point forward. It was fun, but I think we OD'd on shopping for my liking. After shopping in Fish Creek, we had lunch, and then went off to shop in Egg Harbor. Surprisingly enough, there was not much to buy in Egg Harbor. We all remembered the shopping being better there, but by then, I was spent and ready to be done anyway. On our way back, we stopped at this Country Store that has a ton of samples. We all had a 2nd lunch basically... Linda easily ate 12 pounds of Cherry Strudel. It was pretty funny. Then, we went back to the house, emptied out the car, and made a reservation for dinner at the Log Den.

Dinner was a comedy of errors. We sat down, and 20 minutes later we finally met our waitress. The hostess came and apologized and said she was new. So we ordered. I went up and got my salad, only to find a little red bug crawling around my lettuce. Then, the waitress brought Chad and I lemons for our water... they were literally brown, so we returned those as well. My steak was a little over done, AP got the wrong sides, and Linda never got the asparagus she ordered. It also took, what felt like YEARS to get refills. Oh, and it took about 50 minutes to get our orders. Needless to say, we spoke to the owner who gave us 10% off... whatever! After dinner it was back to the house where Chad and I enjoyed a lovely bath in the tub.

Saturday... Happy 4th of July!! We got ready and this time went to Al Johnson's for breakfast. This is where the roof is covered in grass and they have goats on the roof eating the grass... literally. So funny to see! After a wonderful breakfast, we went to Gills Rock, Sister Bay, and Ephraim. Again, more shopping and stops into different places. We also went to Lake Michigan where the beach was literally covered in shells. Billions and billions of shells. No sand, all shells. It was pretty cool. On our way back, we stopped for lunch at a little sandwich and ice cream shop. Chad and I had one of the best pizzas I have ever had. We were all exhausted so we went home and took a nap.

When we woke up, we drove into Sturgeon Bay for dinner at the Stone Harbor Resort, followed by our 4th of July fireworks cruise. For $15/person, we went on the Harbor Lady boat for 2.5 hours. We cruised around, enjoyed a sundae bar, and then watched fireworks. We had so much fun on the boat... I would say it was the highlight of the trip. Everyone was in a good mood, tons of laughing... good times. AP and AC both also bought lots of glow sticks and such... we were pretty decorated in headbands, necklaces, ear rings, pendants, bracelets, and more. It really was great. And... I LOVE fireworks, always have. I am a big fan, and it was so fun to watch them with Chad, wrapped in each others arms. Great end to a great trip.

Yesterday we woke up, ate breakfast at Liberty Square in Egg Harbor, and headed out of town. The drive back seemed to take FOREVER. AP slept the last few hours, so I drove. But we made it back safely and had a great time.

Next trip... Herzl's Alumni Camp August 7-9!
